Berlin is not only the capital of Germany with an area of 892km² but also the most populous city in the entire European Union. It is almost impossible to see everything in one weekend. But I'll show you what you definitely shouldn't miss.
1.) Berlin Zoo
The Berlin Zoo lies directly next to the Tiergarten and is easily accessible by public transport or a Car2Go. The special thing? Here you will find not only ordinary animals but also pandas and polar bears! Furthermore, both the animal enclosures and the entire facility are very spacious and lovingly designed. You hardly see any concrete or loveless enclosures. Although we don't usually think much of zoos, we were thrilled - especially the animal houses with their tropical plants and high glass ceilings take your breath away!
2.) The Victory Column
The Victory Column is a bit reminiscent of Trafalgar Square in London and has just as much charm. And that, even though it does not make it into the top 10 Berlin sights. Highly recommended: The ascent. Although you have to struggle up several steps to the very top, the view is worth it! And the best part: Unlike the expensive ascent to the TV Tower, here you only pay €3.00 and even enjoy a better view!
3.) The Berlin Parks
Enjoy the sun in the middle of Belin? And not in expensive cafes or bars? That's possible! Even better than in many other cities! Whether in front of the Bundestag, on the banks of the Spree or in front of the Berlin Cathedral. The Berlin parks are not only very clean and well-kept - many musicians play here at lunchtime and give the picnic in the big city a romantic touch! In the evening, too, you can enjoy a beer/wine here with a great view.
4.) Tapas Bar Barcelona at Checkpoint Charlie
Relax after a busy day of sightseeing. Our absolute insider tip: Tapas Bar & Restaurant Barcelona. In a prime location, right at Checkpoint Charlie, we only stumbled across it by chance - Luckily! Not only were both the drinks and the food delicious. You really felt like you were in Spain. Certainly not typical of Berlin but definitely worth a visit!
