Travis in and around Brisbane

Naipablaak: 01.11.2023

G'day!

I promised you that I would send you more pictures of the lovely people we met at the Waidroka Bay Resort in Fiji. And I'm a buddy bear who keeps his promises.

So, you look:

Rod and Debbie, the resort managers
Ciara and Gary, who run the diving center: The friends who visited my older ones there.
Marianne from the resort. She liked me too.

When we left, the locals sang a really great song for us. We were all totally touched, my older ones and I. That's what it means when your eyes get a little wet with joy. It was really nice there and I found a few cozy places for myself:

Nice here. And so meditative somehow.

So yesterday we flew from Nadi to Brisbane. My older ones were a bit annoyed that they had to dump out their water bottles right before boarding the plane (Virgin Australia). They said it was totally weird. Instead, every now and then on the plane there was a small cup of water. They probably didn't like it.

From the plane you had a really great view. For example in New Caledonia.

There are still many beautiful destinations

In the end we arrived safe and sound. In Brisbane. By the time we got through all the controls and had the rental car, it was already a little later and we then just drove to our accommodation.

The controls are a bit more complex in Australia because they are so careful that you don't bring anything with you that could harm their nature. Beetle pests in any seeds, any pathogens in food, etc. There's a lot to control. Even dogs help. They smell whether certain things are in their luggage when they walk past it. They have cool noses.

The accommodation was really nice. Nice view...

Chic AirBnN in Newport

From there we drove inland today. But first we had to say goodbye. Namely from one of the suitcases. It had probably traveled enough by now and was broken. So there was a new one 😇.

Bye, old suitcase

On our journey we passed many great places. Forests with huge and many different trees, for example:

Wooaaahhh, it's all ONE tree!
Soooo big!
Palm forests

We also went to the Glasshouse Mountains. They look pretty cool too. Because pressure arises from the earth and then pushes rock upwards. Has something to do with "volcano". Do not know...

The area is for a group of Aboriginal people (the Jinibara). Their traditions and the stories of their people have been linked to this land and its plants and animals for a very long time.

On the way there we also drove on roads that were a bit bumpier and sometimes had holes in them. My oldest looked a little strained while driving. But of course he did a great job. That's why I wasn't afraid at all.

On a gravel road

Just once I felt a little uneasy. We wanted to walk through a forest to a waterfall and viewpoint. It rained a bit. And suddenly there was a very bright light and a loud crash a short time later. My oldest said that it means a thunderstorm and it's better not to be in the forest. Because the bright glow is a flash and it has a lot of energy in it. You wouldn't want to get involved in that, she said. So we decided to turn around and go back to the car. My older ones said that nothing can happen to you in the car during a thunderstorm. I don't understand why that is, but if they say that, it's certainly true. So then I was completely calm again.

Tomorrow we're going kayaking in a nature reserve that's probably similar to the Everglades (whatever that may be). Just my older ones and someone who knows their stuff. Like the diving guides, just above water. And me of course.

I will report.

Until then, best wishes from Travis the Buddy Bear
