Since we hadn't had enough of the wonderful smell of rotten eggs and since Te Puia (another sulfur park) was practically on the way to Taupo (where we wanted to be on Christmas), we thought: Let's stop by there as well.
However, since we were still quite tired from the hike the day before, we struggled through the park. But it was worth it, especially because of a large lake where we could see the sulfur deposits very well.
Finally, we spent Christmas in a hostel in Taupo, together with the people we had met in Auckland. The hostel we stayed at was very cozy and offered a lot, including:
- Christmas quiz (which our group won)
- Champagne breakfast
- Barbecue
And then everyone went swimming in the lake in Taupo (as big as Singapore).
Despite the fact that Christmas songs were playing on the radio all day, it was still the Christmas with the least Christmas atmosphere so far.
