Welcome to Sri Lanka!
The name Sri Lanka comes from Sanskrit and means 'shining land'!
It's pretty crazy that the time difference to Germany is 4.5 hours this time - we've never had the half-hour difference before!
Since we arrive very early at the hostel and our room is still occupied, we collapse in the lobby and catch some sleep first!
Colombo is, as expected, very crowded and noisy - but after the peaceful Oman and the general anticipation of South(east) Asia, we think it's great for the short time we are in the city!
We let ourselves drift through the streets - especially in the bazaar district of Pettah (actually a large market with many streets), it's incredibly busy - and we are glad that we decided for train rides and against a rental car!
Since independence in 1948, the political center Colombo is located on the west coast of the island and due to its favorable location on a peninsula, the former small fishing village has become a sought-after trading port.
And then we are excessively happy about the first good food (and wine) since Georgia - the next weeks can come!
Finally, we greet Steffi and Jürgen, with whom we spent the first hours at the airport in Colombo! That was a very nice start, thank you very much and have a great time!
