Originally, the idea was to ride a motorcycle directly from Vietnam to Cambodia. But since it would have taken quite a long time and we wanted to go to the Philippines due to the season, we decided against it in the end.
That's why we did it now and took the bus from Bangkok to Siem Reap in Cambodia.
When we arrived, we first noticed that here, they drive different tuk-tuks than in Thailand, the Philippines, or Laos. They are small carriages to which they hitch the motorbikes. We felt like kings right away. Especially when we arrived at our hotel, this feeling was confirmed even more.
The hotel was only 3 months old with a rooftop pool and huge modern rooms. In order to be well-utilized in the low season and to become known, they practically sold the rooms for 20 francs per night. Besides the Rainforest Retreat in the Whitsundays in Australia, it was our most beautiful accommodation of the whole trip.
When you are in Siem Reap, it is mandatory to visit Angkor Wat. A huge ancient temple complex. They say it is most beautiful at sunrise, so we set off at 4:30 with the carriage. It's a miracle that we are still capable of getting up so early. :)
Of course, we were not the only ones who had this idea. Together with thousands of others, we were waiting for the sun to rise. Unfortunately, the sunrise was not as magnificent as in the catalog due to the haze and clouds. But the whole complex was still impressive. We particularly liked the temple complex that was slowly being reclaimed by nature. Trees are growing through and on the partly decayed buildings.
From Siem Reap, we will fly directly to Kuala Lumpur to start the last part of our journey. The islands of Tioman and Perhentian.
