We have booked a guided tour through the Lower Antelope Canyon for 11:30 a.m. today. So we need to be at the starting point of the guided tour through the Slot Canyon at 11:00 a.m. The tours are organized and led by descendants of Native Americans in the Navajo Reservation, of course not without requiring an entrance fee for the reservation (in addition to the tickets for the canyon).
Our guide's name is Christopher and he accompanies us on the one-hour hike through the narrow canyon. Filming is strictly prohibited (acquiring the license costs several thousands of dollars) and taking photos is only allowed at selected spots. Nevertheless, we take many photos of the impressive shapes and colors of the canyon.
Captivated by the great experience, we immediately seek the complete opposite, namely the necessary shopping at the local Walmart Superstore before embarking on our exploration tour to Horseshoe Bend.
There are really many people here who try to take the most daring selfie (usually in flip-flops) from the view of the Colorado River below us, which is 300 meters deep. Watching the scene is almost more interesting for us than the actual attraction; there are crazy people everywhere...
Since it is already around 4:30 p.m., we quickly go through the accommodation options for today and decide to drive to Lone Rock Beach at Lake Powell. Here, you can park your camper van on the beach (for a fee) for overnight stay. Carefully, we drive down to the sandy beach (avoiding getting stuck) and surprisingly find that several RVs have already found a spot here. Americans come here with their huge trailers, including pickups and beach buggies, and park these ton-heavy vehicles right in the sand.
We don't dare to do that and park a little further away in the more solid terrain and go for a swim in the lake. When we drive back towards Page (too much hustle and bustle to stay overnight here), we wonder why the cellphone shows 8:00 p.m. - Lone Rock Beach is just above the Utah border, so it's once again an hour later.
