Strong Gale

Since yesterday, the Danish North Sea coast has been experiencing an approaching storm. I traded my camp hut in Lønstrup for a hotel room in Hirtshals. Wanted to be closer to the ferry. Haha. But I didn't reckon with the host. The storm is coming from the west and pushing the water into the port of Hirtshals. Neither Smyril-Line nor Color-Line or Fjord-Line are allowed to dock their ships in this port under the current weather conditions. My ferry to Bergen is now anchored in Fredrikshaven. About 45km away.

I tried it seriously this morning: saddled Hildegard, dressed in weatherproof clothing, and stood in the wind. The result was clear. We'd rather stay here another night, waiting for the weather to calm down and the next ferry.

Fjord-Line made a rebooking without any problems and yesterday in the hotel I asked for a possible extension of the stay in anticipation (thanks to the app 'Yr'). So now I have a large, warm room at the Hotel Hirtshals, with a view of the wild stormy sea.

The storm is raging around the house, rain is lashing against the windows, Hildegard is standing with other bikes protected from the wind in the courtyard, and if it's not raining, sand clouds are sweeping through the streets.

During the walk along the promenade, I was alternately sandblasted and pampered with salty spray. If that doesn't make you feel good, I don't know what does 😂
