Tropea(ish)

Naipablaak: 27.07.2024

We slowly continue north. Tropea was our stopover in Calabria. The sea was tropical blue-green and the town was very picturesquely situated on the white rocks.

It is not without reason that the town was recently voted the most beautiful place in Italy. It is probably something like the flower village in our country.

There is a lot going on in terms of tourism. However, the beach and the bar directly in front of our campsite were much less busy. So we always found a quiet spot and the children could build their sandcastles for hours.

Because the sea access is quite steep, the water tends to build up into high waves. We lost the children's diving goggles and my sunglasses in the water four times. We had almost given up looking for my sunglasses when suddenly, out of nowhere, a man came to the beach, put on his diving goggles, dived down and 5 seconds later had my sunglasses in his hand. He was almost as surprised as the rest of us that he was able to find them so quickly in the high waves and deep water.

It turned out that it was an Austrian tourist who was watching us from the campsite above with his family. He probably felt sorry for us as we watched our unsuccessful search 😉.

In any case, I was very grateful and brought him a bottle of good wine and some money for ice cream.

We ended our last evening in the village in a relaxed manner with very good food and excellent house wine.

We continued over green, wooded hills through Calabria to the northeast towards the Ionian Sea.

Less touristy but also attractive, as the shallow, endless sandy beach invites you to walk and splash around.

The sparsely occupied campsite is again located directly by the sea and we have a beautiful view from the motorhome.
