Last Vietnam stop: Hoi An

Naipablaak: 13.02.2024

02/13/2024

We actually only slept 2.5 hours on Monday night. We both just rolled around. Nina is sick, we don't know what exactly is wrong with her. In the morning we got breakfast from our hostess, to whom we had told that we eat vegetarian food. She had very lovingly made us baguette with egg. What we didn't like so much was the indefinable meat on the egg. We pushed it aside and ate the rest. The hostess was really very nice! Even though she only speaks 4 words of English (thank you, see you again?), she helped us in other ways besides breakfast. We communicated via Google Translate, which sometimes came up with really confusing stuff. Our host took us to the nearest ATM so we could withdraw money. Her husband also drove us to the departure point of our booked bus.

We were supposed to leave at 10 o'clock. The driver arrived shortly after ten. On the other side of the street we saw a young woman waiting with her backpack and started talking to her as she, like us, headed for the bus that had pulled up. And that's how we met Sarah from Germany. We talked until we left at 10:50 a.m. The next 3.5 hours were a bit slow. We had to change buses once and were cramped but quite comfortable in a minibus. Ronja and Sarah exchanged numbers to possibly do something together in Hoi An.

It is much warmer in Hoi An, we arrived at 26 degrees and some sun. We headed straight to our homestay and are happy with the new room. We just ignore a lot of things. However, it is difficult to hear over the chanting outside right next to our accommodation. We went down and ordered food right in the lobby.

Afterwards we parted ways for a few hours. While Nina lay feverishly in bed, Ronja met Sarah and another Viennese woman for a boat tour. Afterwards they went for street food and were amazed by the beautiful city. The day was once again completely different than any other.

“I just dozed off... I drooled all over my hand.”

Last night was quieter than usual, even though there was a small health incident on Nina's part. Ronja looks after her very lovingly and thinks a lot about her friend who is traveling with her. After a shower in the morning, we went for breakfast and were briefly annoyed because the new hosts told us that we should change rooms due to an error in the room allocation. Luckily everything sorted itself out and we were able to stay.

Nina was still on bed rest today, even though she is feeling a little better. Ronja met Sarah again: We spent the day together on the beach, which cannot be compared to the ones in Thailand. We stood by the high waves and lay around on the beach. Later we wanted to go back into the city and searched in vain for a Grab or a taxi for an hour and a half. It was just too crowded so we walked. We got another banana pancake and then said goodbye. The day was nice but I missed Nina a lot!

We ended the evening again as a couple, this time in our separate beds, with a few episodes of a series. We both hope that Nina will be fit enough tomorrow so that we can have a nice Valentine's Day in the beautiful city of Hoi An.

Take care

Ronja & Nina
