Reykjavik (smoky city)

Today we anchor in the harbor of Reykjavik, the northernmost capital in the world.Today it's 8° with dry weather.

This morning we have time to explore the city. We walk past the Harpa and stroll into the old town, where we see lots of colorful wooden houses, disguised colorful 'tin houses', beautiful green areas, lakes, and churches...(museums 🙈feel free to ask me about it at home)The Hallgrímskirkja is exceptionally beautiful, with 5,275 organ pipes. In the afternoon, we go on a short excursion and are once again surprised by the beauty and uniqueness of Iceland.

Iceland's geothermal power

Simply fascinating

Hellisheidi. The steaming boreholes are proof that this area is still volcanically active. We visit 'Orkan natturunnar', an energy power plant that supplies Reykjavik with electricity and hot water. The energy is obtained from underground hot springs.

The Icelanders and their elves...If the elves don't like something, no matter what the situation, they put stones or something else in your way, or you stumble, or etc. '...there was supposed to be a road built, but there was a stone on the planned route that had been there for a long time,... so they decided to build the road around the stone. You never know what the elves will do.'

Hveragerdi

Here, the greenhouses are heated with geothermal energy. In a local restaurant, we tried local delicacies such as various types of bread baked in the steam of hot springs. Very tasty banana bread, fruit bread, and and, and... with sweet and savory spreads.

During our journey, we saw a herd of about 30 galloping Icelandic horses. I was so fascinated that I forgot to take a photo.

Thingvellir

Next, we continue to Thingvellir. In this national park, the tectonic Eurasian and American plates are drifting apart.

Volcano Hengill

We then go for a photo stop at the Hengill volcano: we enjoy a fascinating view.

Along the hot water pipeline, the bus takes us back to the ship.

There is an energy in this country, it is incredible!
