The Wild Boar of Vancouver

Naipablaak: 14.03.2020

Everything in nature is subject to cycles. What means more nature than the rising and setting of the sun, the repeating of seasons, the growth and decay of all living things. And so another circle seems to be closed, in which I have returned from the untamed wilderness to the urban chaos of Vancouver. In this megacity, where my journey began and where I am now able to teach at the nature school for at least a short time. The metropolis is embedded in the wilderness, which extends deep into the city in the form of huge parks. If humans are considered creatures of nature and if wilderness is understood not as a state but as an original process, then one can also speak of an inner wilderness. Has not the inner wilderness been lost, especially in the modern Western world, due to the lack of connection to nature and the desire to control everything? Unfolding one's inner wilderness does not necessarily mean behaving like a rebellious teenager or a flashy esoteric. The personal level is meant by inner wilderness, where one can be wild. Being wild is not static, but a dynamic development (we must un-wrap because we are wrapped up). Unexpected and unplanned events (hello coronavirus) cry out for a wild response to live one's life with courage, freedom, creativity, and liveliness, so that the natural order can unfold.

Conscious presence in nature with all senses can serve to rediscover one's inner wilderness. Perhaps the search for my inner wilderness is the true reason why I am attracted to Canada like a fly to dung.

I am looking forward to the next two weeks of chasing through the city parks with the Vancouver kids and being able to live out my inner wild boar.
