After Pelion, we spent a few days on the coast near Thessaloniki at the foot of Mount Olympus (the highest mountain in Greece and in mythology the seat of the god Zeus). Our first campsite was in Platamonas, at the foot of a Crusader castle, which we naturally visited. As another attraction, there was an abandoned train tunnel underneath the castle. It took a little courage for the boys to walk through it, just the right adventure.
There are many campsites here, which are actually small villages, mainly for long-term campers from Macedonia, who have set up here. But we got a spot right on the beach, and we don't mind a little bit of life.
Speaking of Zeus: He had quite a party and made a lot of noise, maybe it's also a meteorologically explainable phenomenon. In any case, there was quite a lot of thunderstorms in this region. We stayed at a second campsite, but it was still a half construction site, so we didn't like it as much. That's why we went to Thessaloniki.
