Hitchhiking to Rosario

Naipablaak: 23.09.2019

My last days in Buenos Aires have been researching about good locations to visit, partying and sleeping.

These hotdogs are basically everywhere available, super cheap and delicious.
Some obligatory group selfie. On the left is Lucas, my CS host in Buenos Aires.

Sunday I finally made my way to Rosario, which is about 250km from Buenos Aires. My plan was to go with public transport to the outskirts of the capital and hitchhike from there.

I wanted to start early, got up at 6 packed my things and checked for the route. Surprise - the earliest train leaves at 8:30. The day started bad already but the journey should become worse. I went to sleep again, left at 8 and took the first of two trains. The second one was out of service for the rest of the day but I figured that out when I arrived. Some helpful train personal told me to go back two stations and take the bus '204' to the place where I wanted to go. Going back two stations was easy, finding the correct street to wait for the bus a pain in the a**. Everyone said something different.. After an hour I made it but turns out that there is only the bus '204a' which goes to a different outskirt. At that point I was already pretty pissed but the outskirt was on the right street so I just went with it (90 minutes, it was super slow).

So I finally was where I wanted to be, more or less atleast. Tried to hitchhike and I saw this pick-up full of people, I was gesticulating if I could sit in the back of it, more for the jokes of it. But they actually stopped and told me to get in. There were already nine people in, 5 grown ups and 4 kids. They still told me to get in there.

It was no small car but still really cozy. And no, no one was in the back, no idea why not.
They were really cool, super nice people but when I got in, they told me they would make a short stop somewhere. Turns out the short stop was at home, 45 minutes to get something done, so I lost even more time and in the end they dropped me off at a pretty bad spot (straight in the highway, even tho I asked for any gas station 🙄)
I bought some oranges, some are really good and some are incredibly dry. Still was nice to have them. At this spot I waited three hours for someone to pick me up.
I saw this wild pony and thought about using that to get to Rosario. Yeah I was kinda desperate..
In the end a trucker who could only drive as fast as 60km/h since his truck was super old picked me up but he brought me close to Rosario. Then again, I got lucky, it was already at sundown and about to get dark and some old man took me right to the couchsurfer where I stayed at.

He asked me to put my backpack there since his space in the front is limited. Not really understanding this since there was plenty of space but my backpack didn't fall off so 👍👍👍
I'm staying with Martin in Rosario, super friendly, young guy and he has this super modern fancy bike (no brakes, no gears, pedals directly connected to the wheel, called 'Fixie' in German).
This is traditional breakfast here. Cookies and tea or mate.
Today I strolled through the city, there are more photos but this one is exceptionally funny.
Luxurious Pancho, this had eggs, cheese, tomato, ketchup, mustard and fried potatoes.
Aaaand this is Martin and me.

Since hitchhiking was pretty terrible and I needed a day for 250 km, I won't continue hitchhiking to Jujuy which is 1200km away. Tomorrow I'll go by bus which takes about 16 hours and goes overnight.

Cheers, next post is in a warmer climate, 1200km really make a difference 🔥🔥
