We started our first full day in Tokyo with a stroll through the Yokocho Market. This former black market is known for its very intense fish smell. In the nearby Ueno Park, we were able to admire the statue of Saigo Takamori, the last samurai (not Tom Cruise ;) ). We visited two shrines before taking the train to Akihabara. Akihabara is THE electronics district. Besides huge electronics stores, there is also a lot of manga stuff, vending machine stores, and maid cafes. Even the shrine in the district (Kanda Myojin) was decorated with manga characters. There, we were able to watch a geisha performance again. For a late lunch, we treated ourselves to tempura, fried fish and vegetables in a batter. Very delicious.
