Nusa Penida

Today we took our second trip; this time on our own. We booked the ferry and taxi to the port online ourselves because it was easy and would have cost twice as much to book at the hotel. According to the tickets, we should have been at the port an hour before departure, and being typically German, we were. Unfortunately, we weren't rewarded for it; the ferry even waited 25 minutes for late passengers.

Arriving in Nusa Penida, the scooter that Chris booked via WhatsApp in the morning was already waiting for us. The roads were very adventurous as they were quite narrow, had many potholes, and the edges of the roads were crumbling. In the hilly areas, the inclines were very steep, and often you couldn't see what awaited you at the top.

After an hour of adventurous driving, we were rewarded with a gigantic view. From the viewpoint over Diamond Beach, we could see two impressive bays. Unfortunately, you had to go down 700 steps to both beaches, and swimming was not allowed there. For this reason, and because the stairs were blocked by many posing tourists, we spared ourselves the way down. After another hour, we reached Manta Bay, from where we had an even more beautiful view. The highlight of it all was that we were almost alone here.

Afterwards, we explored the interior of the island, where there were hardly any tourists. On the way, we met very friendly locals who showed us the way. We also encountered chickens, pigs, and dogs crossing the streets. The landscape and villages were truly impressive.

To end the day on the island, we made a stop at the sea to at least cool our feet in the water. Then we had to go back to the ferry. Here, we experienced our first heavy rain. Since there were no shelter options, we got wet to our underwear. As it was still 30 degrees Celsius despite the rain, it was a refreshing experience.

We ended the day with food at the villa and Netflix.
