After about 3 hours drive we arrived on the Nicoya Peninsula in the north-west of the country. Unfortunately, we were not spared from the downpours here either. We had booked a really nice, large apartment with a kitchen. Without further ado, we threw all previous plans overboard and just want to let ourselves drift, since we have to be spontaneous anyway because of the heavy rain. So we extended the rental car and decided against going over to Panama by bus, as we had planned beforehand. A good effect of the rainy season is that there are not that many tourists and therefore not very busy, so it went without any problems. In the evening we cooked something delicious and slept like babies in the huge bed.
The next day we drove to Playa Carillo because we had read that you can see crocodiles and macaws there. Unfortunately we had no luck with the macaws, but we actually spotted a not exactly small crocodile in the mangroves under the bridge near the beach. With the high waves and strong currents here on the Pacific coast, we weren’t that excited about going swimming anyway, but the crocodile was a good reason 😄. But since we didn't want to do without the refreshment completely, we drove to a natural pool nearby, which is a bit hidden and can only be found at low tide. The water in the pool itself was very calm, but the impressive waves of the ocean splashed in from outside. That looked pretty cool and we splashed around all by ourselves. Then we walked - again with a delicious coconut - along the beautiful beach, which was lined with palm trees along its entire length. In the evening we ate the leftovers and had a nice evening in our cozy apartment.
The next day we head back inland, namely into the cloud forest of Monteverde.
