Back again in Bangkok. After 13 hours on a night train, we have arrived back in the capital city. Before we could check in, we relaxed in Lumphini Park, where we got really close to one of the monitor lizards this time. After that, we had delicious Chinese donuts (fried dough with a sweet dipping sauce) in Chinatown, where our hostel was located. In the afternoon, Philip showed Sascha his beloved Big Lying Buddha at Wat Pho. In the evening, we mingled with the party crowd on Khao San Road. After a few Chang beers and a fried scorpion, we hit the dance floor and then fell dead tired into our beds. According to Sascha, the scorpion didn't have much taste of its own and was mostly dry 😄
The next day, we walked up to the Golden Mount again, which we enjoyed so much the last time. Then we visited a temple, which we had only seen from the outside before, Wat Suthat, which we also really liked. In the evening, we randomly met an acquaintance of Sascha's from Gross-Zimmern, Alex, who came with us to the market in Chinatown, where we indulged in the delicious food stalls. Later, Sascha and Philip had themselves drawn by a caricaturist. Chinatown never seems to sleep, here you can still eat or drink everything your heart desires even at night. We tried the Durian fruit, which is called the "queen of fruits" but also the "stinky fruit", and it really divides opinions in terms of smell and taste. In short: we are not fans 🥴
On Saturday, it was Sascha's last day. We met up with Alex again and walked through the Siam Center as a group of four. We noticed that there were a lot of cosplayers around. After some searching, we found out why: the apparently very famous Japan Expo was taking place in Bangkok. Several stages were set up and manga-style girl bands were singing loudly to rock-like music. It was pretty crazy and really cool. For sunset, we went to a rooftop bar on the 50th floor !! The view was amazing. In the evening, we had to say goodbye to Sasa 😢
Now we are heading to Cha Am. The original minivan we booked seems to be broken. A taxi took us to another bus station and now we are going with a different minivan. Tomorrow we will start our one-week volunteering at the Wildlife Friends Foundation Thailand.
