Snorkeling instead of snoring

Naipablaak: 13.11.2019

We spend two days on Green Island, a small island east of Cairns (circumference: 1.5 km), in the middle of the Great Barrier Reef. It is something special, not only because the coral reef can be explored from here, but also because a small tropical rainforest has grown on it over the years. Even though it is developed for tourism - only one very nice hotel complex has been built here - great emphasis is placed on the protection of this national park.

Because it is not peak season, we are here with only a few hotel guests, and when the hordes of day visitors take the boats back to the mainland at 4:30 p.m., it is quiet and cozy. We walk a lot, admire the sunset, and of course, observe nature as well. Although we are still tired at times, we let ourselves be guided by the motto: Better snorkeling than snoring! And it's worth it: we see many fish and corals in various colors and shapes, from a distance we see a few turtles, and I even encountered a reef shark while snorkeling!

I took some photos with my rented underwater camera, maybe you like them. In any case, Green Island was a highlight of our Australia trip that I will not forget so quickly.
