Come with me to Adventureland

Naipablaak: 02.12.2019

At 8.45am, two Swiss people, smelling of anti-insect, and excitedly standing in front of the entrance of Dorrigo National Park, embark on a 6.6 km hike through the subtropical rainforest. It's an adventureland - walking past giant trees, various palms, ferns, and bushes, dodging hanging lianas, and admiring exotic roots and branch structures. Various shades of green alternate, and exotic apple tree fruits lie around everywhere. The wind rustles through the approximately 15 meter high treetops, and foreign bird sounds fill the air. We keep an eye out for animals and actually encounter a wallaby, a lyrebird, various lizards, and even a black snake of about 1.5 meters long just before the end. The thought that Australia is swarming with poisonous animals is quickly dispelled, and we continue in awe. During the tour, we pass two romantic waterfalls (which actually let some water fall;-) and cross a suspension bridge, a skywalk. It is a special experience that makes one marvel at the diversity of creation (here in its primal state). We leave the park after 2 hours enriched and impressed.

On the drive to today's campsite in 'Nambucca Head', we pass through the small town of Bellingen. Not only does this name sound German, but we also pass by a shop called 'Swiss Patisserie', which naturally piques our curiosity. Indeed, they have Swiss cream slices, bird's nests, legs and spitzbuebe (smileys), but also a type of cream puff called 'ABC turnover' (for whatever reason). We choose two items and try them - and they taste fantastic! When we ask the friendly attendant, she tells us that there is a Swiss person working in the bakery. But he's currently very busy and can't talk to us. We would have liked to shout 'isch fein gsii!' to him, but it remained at 'Gruess id Chuchi'.
