14.01.2018 Boat tour on the Mekong

Naipablaak: 15.01.2018

Chris has organized a boat tour on the Mekong River for today. (Again through the hostel, as you get better prices than at the tourist office) We will be picked up from the hostel by a chauffeur at 9:45 am. In the tuk tuk to the pier, we meet a couple from Scotland. They tell us about their trip from Vietnam through Cambodia to Laos and give us tips on what to visit and when. Thank you guys! :-)

On the boat, we are welcomed by Lee, the tour guide, and instructed about the most important details. The plan is as follows - we will go to the Pak Ou Caves, where over the years, more than 1,000 Buddha statues have been placed. On the way there, we stop at Whiskey City, where you can taste and buy different whiskey varieties. The whole thing takes about two hours. The return trip to the pier takes one and a half hours, during which lunch consisting of starters, soup, main course, and dessert is served. It's a nice, relaxing trip where we meet interesting people and enjoy delicious food in a very pleasant atmosphere.

Back at the pier, we informed our chauffeur that we do not need a ride back to the hostel as we want to organize our bus tickets to Vang Vieng in town. Since we already checked the internet the night before, we are now looking for the office of treasuretravellaos.com and book our tickets for the mini-van ride for 100,000 Kip per person. We are told that we have to be ready at six in the morning and the ride will take about four hours.

Since the day on the boat was so nice, Chris booked an evening dinner cruise with sunset. And so we are back on the boat at 5:00 pm and this time enjoy the sunset. Laotian music is played and traditional dances are performed during the meal. We enjoy the moment and toast to our journey with red wine.

Back at the hostel, it's time to pack and prepare everything for the departure the next morning.

Here we come, Vang Vieng!
