June 27/28/29, 2017
The ending is always the most difficult, especially when the journey has been perfect.
On June 27, we still have a day in Seattle. We spend the morning cleaning our snail shell. The car needs to be washed before returning. We ask the campsite caretaker where we can do that. As a true American, he has no problem with us using the campsite and brings a hose and vacuum cleaner. As true Germans, we don't use soap.
It's a bit sad because we are about to leave a loyal friend. We display our kitchen equipment and unopened food on a flea market. I want to photograph everything, but when I return with the camera, only the sign is left.
In the afternoon, we visit a filming location of 'Sleepless in Seattle'. The houseboat is not accessible, but the surroundings are familiar. As a farewell, we take a record-breaking walk and find many beautiful goodbye views. We have our last dinner in a Vietnamese corner snack bar. The waitress is so friendly, she captures the moment.
The day of departure is usually hectic. We have to drive 60 kilometers across the city to return the car. It's a challenge, especially when under time pressure. But after a few wrong turns, we make it and arrive on time. The car is returned without any complaints and now we are standing in the middle of nowhere with our suitcases.
Not for long. At the same time as us, a young family returns their car. Gudrun finds out that they are also going to the same flight as us and have already booked a minivan with Uber.
But the minivan is a bit overwhelmed with our luggage and the driver has to deal with some traffic. The ride is another nice experience and we can reduce our transport costs again. We transfer our share with PAYPAL. It's so easy nowadays to get rid of your money.
The flight lasts nine and a half hours, which is very fast for the distance. Actually, there's nothing to report, unless you want me to tell you about the four movies I watched. There is a slight hassle with the Lufthansa train from Frankfurt to Cologne. It's overcrowded, but everything works out and we are ready to sleep for 17 out of the next 24 hours.
What will we tell when we come home? That it was beautiful.
