Island Day 7

Naipablaak: 16.10.2022

'After so much silence, it was shocking to be among people again'

We raced through the streets of the capital, ate in cute cafes, and bought treats in bakeries and street vendors (after mostly living off of our provisions during the trip, we found ourselves in food heaven). The stand to the left of the big church sells the best hot dogs I've ever had - we still rave about them today! We listened to a choir singing folk songs in front of the church before continuing our way to the Viking ship statue at the harbor. The city center has so many great shops, you can immediately tell that it is a big and vibrant city. Colorful houses brighten up the gray sky and colorful street art brings a smile to the faces of passersby.

We had something special planned for our last afternoon in Iceland. We wanted to relax in the famous hot springs of the capital. There are now two - the Blue Lagoon and the Sky Lagoon. We chose the Sky Lagoon (it is recommended to book online in advance for both) and drove to the outskirts of the city, where the lagoon is located. The huge pool was lined with volcanic rock and small benches made of it invited us to relax. There were also drinks in the pool and you could really make yourself comfortable. The best thing about the pool was definitely its proximity to the sea. At the curved edge, you could rest your arms and look almost directly at the sea below you, it was amazing! There was also a small waterfall and a sauna and a cold pool (the sauna has to be booked separately in advance). We stayed in the wonderfully warm water for hours and watched as the sun gradually approached the sea, creating a silver path towards us. We stayed at the edge of the pool for so long that it felt like we were in the sea ourselves. Eventually, we had to make our way back to return the rental car and check into the hotel. Our flight was in the early morning hours, but we still wanted to get a few hours of sleep.
