Last stop: Bangkok πŸ‡ΉπŸ‡

Naipablaak: 29.05.2019

After relaxing on Koh Chang, on 25.05. we set off for the last bus ride of our trip. The destination was the largest city we have ever visited: Bangkok.

On Sundays, the Chatuchak Weekend Market takes place. Initially, we were skeptical whether we should visit this market, as we were disappointed by the previous markets on our trip. The skepticism disappeared, because the market has a very good selection and is huge. It is the largest in Thailand with over 10,000 traders. We found our desired souvenirs and new clothes.

After finishing shopping, we headed to Chinatown. When we arrived, we had to realize that the shops are closed during the day.

So we returned later in the evening. For dinner, we tried something new: Birds Nest. A Chinese delicacy served as a soup with bird nests. The special thing: the birds build their nests from saliva πŸ˜…

The bowl was expensive and the taste was quite plain. The texture of the filling was also unusual.

Afterwards, we let the atmosphere take effect on us.

Culturally, Bangkok has a lot to offer, of course. First, we visited the Grand Palace. The king himself no longer lives in the palace today. Therefore, tourists can explore almost the entire area.

The temples are strictly guarded.

Does the young man like his job?
We will now show you some impressions of the huge complex. For example, the wall painting πŸ€ͺ

So much gold 🀩

As part of the admission fee, there was also a traditional Thai dance performance.

The cultural part was not over yet. Not far from the Grand Palace is the temple complex Wat Pho. Important to know: the official name is Wat Phra Chettuphon Wimon Mangkhalaram Ratchaworamahawihan. In this complex lies a giant golden Buddha. With a length of 46 meters and a height of 15 meters, it is not even the largest reclining Buddha in Thailand πŸ˜…

We were missing a bit of culture! That is, the nightlife. Near our hotel is the PatPong Night Market. In addition to many merchants, other establishments offer their services here. We visited a ping pong show πŸ“ We had a lot of fun, even though it was extremely bizarre πŸ˜…πŸ€ͺ Details can be requested personally from us πŸ˜‚
We spent our last day in Bangkok, among other things, with a ride on the Skytrain. A train that runs high above the streets of Bangkok. We were hoping for some new perspectives of the many skyscrapers, but were disappointed because the windows are quite small and covered with a lot of advertisements πŸ€”
We relaxed in the park once again...

...before the crowning finale - the Skybar at the Lebua State Tower. On the 63rd floor, we treated ourselves to a ridiculously expensive cocktail called "Hangovertini". That's right, scenes from the movie Hangover II were shot here.

An breathtaking view:

And this is how we experienced the sunset πŸŒ‡

With this beautiful evening, our two-month adventure comes to an end. Tomorrow morning at 10 o'clock we will fly home with a tear in our eye, because the beautiful travel time is over for now. But we will also fly home with a smile on our face, because the longing for family and friends, our cats, our comfortable couch, kebabs, delicious bread, beer, sparkling water, our closets, ... has become very strong in the meantime!

And also, the king is looking at us so sceptically 🧐
