Pacific Rim

Naipablaak: 30.07.2023

Today we want to take it easy. After a hearty breakfast,

, we set off on our first trail with our packed lunches, water, sun protection, mosquito repellent, as well as our walking sticks and drone. It's an easy starting trail, as you should always warm up properly.

The Lighthouse Loop. 2.6 km long, rated as easy by my standards. Estimated duration is 45-60 minutes plus individual viewing time.

A beautiful trail with some quirky trees,

spectacular views of rugged rock formations,

and the vast, open sea.

Occasionally, there are small side paths and stairs

leading to beaches or secluded viewpoints.

At every corner, there's a bench inviting you to rest and have a picnic. And since I like to capture everything in pictures, sometimes we have to stop. Much to the chagrin of Schahaatz, who actually wants to keep moving. Alright, let's go down the stairs, because what goes down must come up...

That gets the circulation going. The blood pumps through the veins, a reminder that we're still alive and... out of shape.

At the second set of stairs, Schahaatz wanted to skip (because "we can see almost the same thing as before"), but we can't chicken out - we're in this together.

And yes, the view was similar (amazing), just a few meters higher, but this time the stairs were much easier because the steps were closer together. The rest of the way was really easy, more downhill than uphill.

It was a wise decision to walk against the flow this time.

At the lighthouse, we wanted to let Captain America (our drone) out for some fresh air,

He just doesn't want to

but he was unwell, compass error 🤨 due to strong magnetic fields or something...(probably from all the calibration spinning, it would make me feel sick too), so he had to go back into his box without accomplishing anything.

A really beautiful walk, but that's enough for today, we need to save something for the next few days.

Spend another hour at the beach, feel the sun on our faces, stare out at the sea, and meditate,

take an afternoon nap, and have some more food

We're so lucky

and the day is done.

Here, from our ever-popular segment Facts, here's some information about our vacation destination:

Ucluelet is a place on the west coast of Vancouver Island, in the Canadian province of British Columbia. The settlement is located at the southern tip of the Esowista Peninsula. Ucluelet means "safe harbor" and is derived from the language of the First Nations. There are about 1,800 locals living here, with around 200 of them being indigenous people.

In the past, people made a living from fishing and the timber trade, but now it's ecotourism (whale watching and hiking).

PS: according to our fitness watch, it was 4.2 km and took 90 minutes (thanks to the detours and many photos).
