We have been on the same campsite for 3 nights - time to move on. By the way, we had dinner twice at the mentioned tavern: simply delicious! Order appetizers and drinks, after the appetizers: into the kitchen, choose the main course, then dessert on the house (fresh mixed fruit), and a little schnapps on the house - the price for everything seems to be €15 per person and tasty ....
Well, today we went inland. Through a few small villages, mostly with narrow, barely passable roads, we went to Kosmas. The village is located at an altitude of 1,150m and is especially appreciated by Greeks. The mountain village is a popular destination not only in summer (temperatures are always a few degrees lower than on the coast), but also in winter. With a little luck, the snow is then meters high. But it is hard to imagine what the approach is like. The road conditions are partly poor, the routing daring, the hairpin bends and village crossings narrow .... and all that in the snow?!
From Kosmas we descend again, via several hairpin bends, to the Elonis Monastery. The monastery, located in the lonely, treeless mountain world of the Daphnon Mountains, was founded in the 15th or 16th century and is literally glued to the rugged mountain slopes. Worth seeing is the single-aisle church from 1809, located in a rock niche (unfortunately no photography allowed). The icon of the holy Elonis, adorned with a lot of gold, is still called upon for help by many visitors today.
The Daphnon Mountains are also popular with mountaineers and especially free climbers. There are many mountain walls near the coast that look like they have to be conquered.
Now we are in Plakia, the port of Leonidion. In high season, it is probably a party mile with discos and all sorts of entertainment, now calm and peaceful. The 2 km long pebble beach invites you to swim and we will make use of it later.
Since uploading the pictures takes forever, there are only 2 today. The WIFI at the campsite is extremely slow and the data volume of the mobile router is used up. We did not buy a Greek SIM card because there is free wifi almost everywhere.
