Aldaw 10: Magna a kadua ti panagbantay

Naipablaak: 04.08.2023

Today was a rather calm day. As always, we fed the calves at nine o'clock and then had breakfast. Since all the cabins had to be cleaned today, I was busy for a little over two hours. After about an hour and a half (around half past twelve), Ingveldur came to me and said there's lunch. The soup (vegetables and the remaining meat from yesterday) was really delicious. After that, I finished cleaning.

All day long, Jonas (the cat) lay on my bed in my room and every time I came into my room, he wanted to be petted. You can't resist that.

After a while of petting Jonas, the woman from Germany came and asked if I wanted to come to the village to go shopping. I said yes because I wanted to get some tea. Seriously, who doesn't have tea at home? Icelanders! They drink four to six cups of coffee a day, but they don't have a single tea bag at home. She let me drive. It was a bit strange at first because I hadn't driven a manual car in a long time and the steering wheel in the car was somehow mounted crooked, so the car goes straight when the steering wheel is turned quite to the left. You really have to get used to that. With a little help, it went pretty well though. And the car survived.

For dinner, we had the leftovers from the soup, pasta with grated cheese, and of course, hotdogs.

After dinner, we went to feed the calves again, and the tourists from one of the cabins came along and helped us.

After that, I briefly considered just sitting down and reading, but somehow I wanted to get some fresh air. So I grabbed my hiking boots and just started walking. You can't get lost here. At first, I just wanted to walk, but then I remembered that the woman from Germany said that I should definitely go to the small mountain (Demon), fifteen minutes from the farm. And I spontaneously did that too. The ascent was absolutely exhausting, as unsporty as I am XD, but I managed. And at the top, I had a really beautiful view. The two dogs from the farm came along as well. One of them said goodbye after halfway up the climb, but the other one really came all the way back home with me. At the top, I sat down and rested for a moment and then walked around on the mountain for another half an hour or so. Then I went back down. The descent was not quite as exhausting, but I really had to watch my step with every step, so it was more mentally exhausting.

Even though I still get homesick pretty often, especially when I'm alone, it's getting better. It's still hard, but it's improving.

See you then

Julia
