Atlantic Road

Naipablaak: 13.06.2023

So, here we are at the northernmost point of our journey (I wasn't allowed to write "at the end of our journey," that sounds so negative, Ingo said). Anyway, tomorrow we're heading home, no, heading south ☝️. We still have 6 days of vacation and 1,500 km (+ ferry) ahead of us.

We've had an exciting 20 days behind us, in which we've driven 1,800 km. Almost every day a little further, only at 4 places did we actually stay for 2 or 3 days.

Today we visited the last point on our "must-see list": the Atlantic Coastal Road! Nice! But somehow we expected more from it. The parking lots at the viewpoints were completely overcrowded and in the end the coastal road with its bridges was only 8 km long and you crossed it quickly. I think it looks more impressive from above than from the road.

Right at the end of this panoramic road we found a nice pitch that made up for yesterday. Yesterday was not our day. Actually, the weather was not so great for the first time: clouds and later a rain shower. And I had specifically knocked on my head 3 times when I raved about the good weather the day before! Well, there's the proof, he's probably not made entirely of wood after all 😂

Since we wanted to drive the coastal road in sunshine, we made a stop in Molde-Varden, up on the mountain. The official parking space there was already full or too small. Since it's always said that free camping is easily tolerated in Norway, we parked a little further up the road where we won't bother anyone. The view was fantastic, you look out over the fjord and 222 snow-covered peaks. No, I didn't count them, that information comes from the guidebook 😂.

Gradually, more and more camper vans and vans arrived, parking every which way. And then I always wonder: where do the "vanlifers" go when they have to "go", the mini campers usually don't have a toilet on board, do they?? Oh, I guess I don't really want to know that in detail 🤢.

Well, anyway, at 10 p.m. a young Norwegian woman came by, and she didn't like us being there (we had the largest vehicle there). Apparently, we were in her way while she was taking her nighttime walk, so she took a photo of our license plate and wanted to report us. So, there are also "block wardens" here 🙄. I used to think that was typical German.

My mood was in the basement after that, the night was restless, and in the morning we left before breakfast. Just in time, because 2 buses full of cruise ship passengers came towards us and wanted to see the 222 mountain peaks. Later we saw them again at the viewpoint on the Atlantic Road. Are they following us? 😂

We will now end the evening sitting in camping chairs in front of the camper van, under the brilliantly blue sky ☀️☀️☀️
