Today we just took a tram ride in Christchurch. You can book combination tickets with a river trip and/or gondola; the tram rides are full-day hop on-off. During the trip we received a lot of information about the city, which was badly affected by an earthquake in 2011. There were 6 trams running about 10 minutes apart, the oldest is 200 years old, the youngest 4. Shortly before the main tram station there is a street where the houses on both sides are exactly mirrored.
After the trip we went to Kaikoura for a whale watching tour. We were able to see a sperm whale that even dived "for us". Also dusky dolphins and pilot whales. The latter were a whole pot, a cow with a young animal swam right next to our boat. The young animal turned on its back and splashed on the water with its side fins. The mother was about 2-3 meters long.
