Ebipụtara: 01.03.2020

Lake Pukaki Road Reserve

After a hearty breakfast, we go for a swim in Lake Pukaki, a former glacier lake, with a view of Mount Cook. We spend the rest of the day in the sun before heading to Lake Tekapo in the evening to spend another night there. Unfortunately, we can't find a campsite here, so after a long search, we decide to drive back to the same campsite. In the evening, we admire the beautiful starry sky, which we have never seen so clearly before. This is also due to the fact that we are in a Dark Sky Reserve, which means that light pollution is kept to a minimum. That's why this area is considered the best in the world for stargazing. We also discover for the second time a creepy arrangement of light points that move across the sky like a chain and disappear at a certain point. After some research and much speculation, we find out that this is the "Starlink" project by Elon Musk, in which several hundred satellites in the sky are meant to ensure global internet coverage.
