Singapore (SGP)

The island state of Singapore is a mega metropolis and probably the cleanest city in the world.

There is a lot to discover in Singapore as the city combines tradition and modernity.

Whether it's the colonial district, Chinatown, Little India, or the Arab quarter, you feel like you're in a different country every time.

But the highlight of Singapore is probably the futuristic Marina Bay area. Not only is the famous five-star hotel Marina Bay Sands located there, but also the large modern Gardens by the Bay.

Admission to the garden is free. You have to pay admission to do the 'Super-Trees Walk' - a walk on a bridge suspended between the design trees made of steel.

Admission is also charged for the 'Cloud Forest' and 'Flower Dome' greenhouses. In the 'Cloud Forest', there is a large, artificial mountain covered with plants, and a waterfall cascades down from it. There is a circular path through and around the mountain.

In the 'Flower Dome', there are plants from all possible regions of the world. They are thematically organized and beautifully done.

The greenhouses are worth a visit, but you should bring a sweater because it's quite cool inside.

Every evening, there is a light show at the Super-Trees and a water show in front of Marina Bay Sands. Very beautiful, and the best part is that it's free.

Another attraction is the city's landmark. The statue of the Merlion - the head of a lion and the body of a fish.

My trip to Singapore happened to coincide with the Chinese New Year. This is the most important festival for the Chinese. According to legend, the festival is celebrated to drive away a recurring monster - with noise and the colors red and gold.

During the festival, there were evening fireworks in the bay at Marina Bay.

Singapore was a beautiful end to my journey through Asia.
