And there it was... The moment when I wished I could stay longer, not take the next bus to Noosa (oops, I just revealed the next destination 🤭) and simply stay in Bundaberg. With the people I have grown fond of in the past 2 days, where I felt so comfortable... And then I had to get on the bus, say goodbye to everyone, and look forward to the next destination...
Well, there's not much you can do when you have a planned and quite necessary schedule. But one thing's for sure: I will come back and stay longer next time. In the Bunk Inn Hostel.
I arrived on June 22nd quite late, and standing there in front of the house, you wonder where you have landed. Because yes, from the outside, it doesn't look inviting, I must say. But even at 11:30pm, the door was still opened for me (although the 'reception' is only open until 11pm) and if someone comes in expecting a normal reception desk, they're mistaken. To check in, you sit at the dining table (if you can't imagine that, feel free to write to me and I can send you the matching video) and everything is shown to you. The bedrooms are directly connected to the dining/living room, so you never feel left out, as is common in many other hostels. There are 2 bathrooms with a vanity and shower, as well as a toilet for 3 rooms #WGleben, which has never been a problem.
Well, I think that's enough about the accommodation now. Now onto the important part.
Bundaberg is already a term in Germany, and if that doesn't mean anything to you, go to a supermarket and ask for Bundaberg Ginger Beer 🍻. It's not quite beer, as it doesn't contain any alcohol, but oh well.
The story of Bundaberg.
And if you're in Bundaberg at Barrel, you can get a tour and a tasting for $12. And since that would be boring with just Ginger Beer, the company has added 17 other flavors over the years.
Excluding the diet variants, as well as the new flavor that will be available in supermarkets next month (we have already tried it and it's approved!).
In the end, you were able to choose your 6 favorite drinks and take them with you.
But Bundaberg is not only known for that, but also for the Rum Factory in town and of course we went there as well. You can only buy the products directly from the shop there, not from the shelf.
In the evening, part of our hostel family went to the pub to watch the Origin Match. Queensland against New South Wales. Of course, we pre-drank at the hostel to be able to cheer on our team properly... Well, unfortunately Queensland lost. But I'll take it positively, soon I'll be in Sydney and then I'll be a winner again 🥇 😂.
Now I'm on the bus again, on my way to pick up Marcel in Hervey Bay and then continue to Noosa. And those who have been following me for a while know that I'm a huge Noosa fan! 😍 Helena is also on board again. Since Airlie Beach, we have been traveling together more or less. Our paths separate here and there, but in the end, we all sit in the same bus 🚍.
To be continued... Xo
