It gets warm very early in the morning at Marfells Beach. A hot day is announced. The plan is to drive further south and visit some more beaches. But I don't get far because there are more construction sites with adventurous detours on SH1. Not only in Kaikoura. Somehow, it's too complicated for me today and I turn around because more places like this are announced on a mobile display. I feel like taking a shower again. So I drive back to Blenheim where I have lunch. Coincidentally, a historic steam train arrives at the station at the same time and I stop at the train station. There is also the I-site with camper parking. After lunch, the train departs and I can take some photos. Then I drive to Picton and go to a campground that I already briefly visited on the way there. Embarrassingly clean everything, not stuffy but friendly and genuine, only 3 minutes from the ferry and 10 minutes on foot to the city. In the afternoon, I sit outside between trees in the shade and book the ferry back to the North Island and use the laundry to wash and dry clothes. Then I go to the city, there is a relaxed and very laid-back atmosphere and I immediately meet some people again. In the evening, I go for a run because I need more exercise. I've already driven another 1000km in the past few days. In the evening, I go to bed early, the alarm clock rings at 7am for the ferry.
