Today we were in Te Anau in a glowworm cave.🐛
We took a half-hour boat ride across Lake Te Anau to get there. There, a guide told us some interesting things about the caves, for example, that a river formed the cave and still flows through it, continuing to shape the cave. Inside the cave, we rode in a small boat in pitch darkness on the river and saw many little glowworms, it was really beautiful, unfortunately we weren't allowed to take pictures of it🙁
One thing I found very interesting was that the glowworms were not the familiar glowworms we know, but the larvae of a fungus gnat, which glow when they get hungry to attract insects. The fungus gnat itself only lives for 5 days and can no longer eat, so its purpose is only to reproduce.
Of course, Laura and I were clever enough to take photos of the code of the pictures we took and didn't pay for them😅💪
