North Island / Day 19-23

Ebipụtara: 18.09.2019

Hello dear ones, yes it's been 5 days since my last entry. Not much has happened, until yesterday. Yesterday evening another turtle nest hatched. In total, 96 made it to the water. There were no crabs in the nest, so no casualties.

On Monday, our colleague Manu had her birthday. In the morning, we set up the breakfast table nicely for her and took a photo of the three of us with a turtle. She was very happy about it. In the evening, we celebrated her birthday with some hotel staff. It was a really cool evening.

In the past few days, we have also been snorkeling a few times and saw a lot. Among other things, we saw a female hawksbill turtle. So I hope we will soon see one on land too. But for me, there are only 3 days left, so it might be tight.

During the morning beach patrol, I also saw two rays very close to the shore. They always swim very close to the surface. It looked like they were waving at me.

Unfortunately, it rained almost continuously on Monday. And it's not even the rainy season yet. I don't want to imagine how much it will rain then. But this brings out all the land turtles and we can document them.

I will contact you again when I am on the main island. Maybe I can fly back on Saturday with the helicopter. The guests from the hotel always come here by helicopter. And if we're lucky, a helicopter will arrive on our departure day with guests and we can fly back with them for free. That would be great if it works out. I will only know for sure on Friday afternoon.

See you then!

Your Alex
