We packed our things and left the gingerbread house, the rainforest, and the drizzling weather. Pit stop at our beloved Hilo for a super organic lunch. The Americans are experts in fast food, but if you look carefully, there are many cool organic shops, cafes, and restaurants, and they are really good! After that, we went to the open-air airport and off to Kauai. New car, new home. This time we are in a hotel/apartment with a sea view. We really like it here with a kitchen, living room, separate bedroom, multiple pools and jacuzzis, and many restaurants, hotels, and shops around. The weather is very pleasant – not too hot, not too cold, a bit windy, and very, very green. The small town is called Kapaa and is very alternative, organic, and deeply relaxed, which we really like. After studying 'things to do' in Kauai, we set off and strolled through Kapaa, which is full of small shops, restaurants, and cafes. In a shop, we rented a bike and rode along a bike path with a wow effect along the beach. Look at the pictures. We really enjoyed this type of sport. After 10 km and a few drops of sweat here and there, we jumped into the sea and enjoyed the afternoon. Later, we drove to the Opaeka'a Falls about 3 km further away. A 46m high, three-tiered waterfall. Very beautiful. There was another lookout that I wanted to aim for. There are wild chickens everywhere in Hawaii. Especially at this lookout. They are Hawaiian chickens and therefore very relaxed. I drove slowly into the parking lot at about 5 km/h, and there was such a chicken that wasn't in a hurry at all. I drove slowly, slowly, assuming that the chicken would slowly, slowly move away from the road. You reach the point where you can't see the chicken anymore... Did it run to the right - I didn't see it, or did it crouch and wait between the wheels, or is it under the wheels??? Zoe, who is already slowly turning into a vegetarian (unless there is a Wolfgang nearby), started to hyperventilate. Suddenly, all the chickens in the parking lot turned around as if on command - there were about 100 - no kidding! - and ran towards us! Did I hit the chicken and now the kamikaze relatives are running towards us to avenge it? Hitchcock's 'The Birds' came to mind... Zoe, completely panicked: 'Drive, Mum, faaaaaast!' Checked the rearview mirror - there was no flattened chicken, everything was fine, but no idea what was going on with the 100 chickens. Unfortunately, I wasn't quick-witted enough to take a quick photo, but the situation was bizarre/funny 😊 That obviously called for a Mai Tai to level out the adrenaline again, which always works.
