The 'King's Road'

Diterbitkan: 20.08.2022

The road 63 leads from Andalsnes into the mountains and is one of the busiest roads in Norway in the summer, although it is usually nothing more than a narrow local road, which is still little compared to a standard federal road here ;-)

The reason is simple. It is one of the most beautiful roads in the world.

The Trollstigen climbs steeply from sea level to about 800 meters. The road winds in 11 hairpin turns and offers a spectacular view of the landscape and the traffic that takes place in the turns. Regularly, nothing goes on when a bus or a camper gets 'stuck' in the curves or at narrow points.

The road continues through a beautiful valley, along roaring mountain rivers to Geiranger, the most beautiful fjord in Norway. It is Norway's second UNESCO World Heritage Site, along with Vega.

There used to be some very lonely farms high up along the fjord. The children were sometimes tied with ropes so that they would not fall hundreds of meters over the cliff. If you look very closely at the photos, you can see some farms.

Although it is already off-season, the campsites and hotels are still very crowded. But the road is already quite calm. Most tourists come by bus and in the evening it is accordingly empty.

We are here for the second time and it is very impressive again. The children also liked it - especially because of the many rivers, streams, and the snow.

We are sleeping once again at a rest area - this time with a view of the Geiranger Fjord.

Tomorrow, hopefully, we will go to a glacier - the Jostedalbreen. The weather should cooperate.
