Buenos Aires Day 1

Diterbitkan: 04.03.2020

Monday 02.03.
We had agreed with the Argentine colleagues the day before that they would pick me up at the airport at half past six to pick up Kurt. Since Veronika and Luigi are flying home here in Buenos Aires, we still needed two comrades who would drive the two vans. The second one, Alessio, will arrive on 03.05. We were also there on time at 07:15 am. Since the plane from Amsterdam landed at about the same time, it took over an hour until I could welcome Kurt. We first drove to the accommodation to drop off the luggage. Then we immediately followed the others who had already attended the first appointment. We were shown and explained a school in a so-called 'Villa'. A 'Villa' is a slum, similar to the Brazilian favelas. In these neighborhoods, the official Argentine law applies only officially. The law of the stronger works here. This school is paid for by the church and the city. The city, of course, for its own benefit, as it naturally tries to normalize these neighborhoods in some way. About 450 students attend this school. It is so well accepted because otherwise these students would have long ways to other schools. Accompaniment as described on the previous day was also available today. Through the city with advance guard, rear guard, and sirens. Additionally, this time a special unit with 6 motorcycles was also equipped with large-caliber long guns. In the evening, we were able to go out for a beer and watch a tango performance on the square where we had our beer.
