Blog 3 - from Muscat to Sohar

Diterbitkan: 09.03.2022

Today we're starting our road trip from Muscat to Sohar.

The Batinah plain along the coast is not very appealing - to put it mildly.... That's why we're taking a detour and driving through the foothills of Jabal Akhdar and Jabal Shams towards the northwest.

The well-known clay fortress of Nakhl dates back mainly to the 17th century and has had to be restored several times over the years. Such a "refresh" is currently underway since 2019, so the fortress is closed to visitors.

Typical of the mountain regions are the date palm groves in the valleys, on the edge of wadis, which carry water at least in winter (rainy season - if it does not fail).

We wanted to avoid the rather boring Batinah Plain along the coast, so we took the longer way through the foothills of Jabal Akhdar and Jabal Shams.

The famous clay fortress in Nakhl was erected in the 17th century, but has to be refurbished from time to time - actually currently under progress since 2019 (therefore closed for visitors)

Quite typical for the mountain regions of Oman are the date palm groves at the edge of the wadis which have water during the rainy season.
