Today we went to a coffee, cocoa and sugar cane farm and did a tour with tasting. That was great for all of us. For some it was the chocolate and for others it was the coffee.
We also saw some other things and animals. For example, one participant almost sat on a poisonous caterpillar that causes pain for 24 hours. Poisonous snakes are also not uncommon on coffee plantations, but thank God we didn't see any. Various exotic fruits also grow on the plantation, such as different types of bananas, custard apples and others. One plant that looks a bit like brown sponges is also called the shampoo plant because you can make shampoo out of it, another can be used as lipstick or for war paint (that was Ida's thing).
You can eat the cocoa fruits fresh, or rather the skin around them, which tastes sweet and fruity. You then have to spit out the seeds, the same goes for green coffee beans. Then you can of course eat roasted cocoa beans or put them in muesli as cocoa nibs or drink them as tea. The children were allowed to press sugar out of the sugar cane and grind coffee beans and mix chocolate with various ingredients, that was great and delicious and there were always explanations of how everything worked and you could try everything...
