15./16.05.2023 - Well, we're on the move again... Even though the last blog was in 2019 (Canada/USA), it doesn't mean that we were too lazy to travel between 2019 and 2023, it was more like we somehow forgot about the blog... but never mind, after four years we find the strength and endurance to create one again. Especially because we allowed ourselves 10 weeks and there were still some states and attractions that we hadn't seen or that were worth seeing again because they were somehow on the way...
So, that's the introduction. Those who have read the report on Canada know that we can have problems from the very beginning. These are usually (actually never) caused by us, but rather by our 'travel partners'...
It all started with the announced train strike (which didn't happen after all), which was supposed to start exactly when we wanted to get moving to get from Cologne to Frankfurt, and the associated 'chaos department' of Lufthansa. It goes too far to break all this down here and it destroys our good mood - because everything went well - for us.
So, let's start again at the airport and show our delight because everything was supposed to go according to plan and it did in the end.
After 9 hours of flying, the Michigan Lake was visible under our 747. A truly huge lake, 500 km long and 190 km wide... Wow, that's a size that impresses...
When we landed at Chicago O'Hare, it quickly became apparent that one of the largest airports in the USA was not yet the largest, as there were still countless construction sites here that made the way to the immigration desk feel like a half marathon course. But we made it and also found our way from the terminal to the train that would take us into the city, despite the miserable signage.
The first thing we did after checking in at the Hotel Felix was to go to Navy Pier, the best place for a view of the great lake and the Chicago skyline.
Then back to the hotel in rather cool temperatures, not without treating ourselves to two sandwiches and a few cookies (thanks Hillary!) for 22 dollars beforehand. So much for the topic 'Treat yourself to something' :)
And now it's time to sleep...
