After already being on Koh Lanta for 3 days, here are my impressions:
As mentioned before, Phi Phi Island was a big mistake and the 3 days there were too expensive! We were afraid that Koh Lanta could also be a disappointment. The first impression from the harbor... well. Not very beautiful and inviting. But there was a Thai woman who immediately approached us, wanting to take us to the hotel in her motorbike tuk-tuk. I had read before that many taxi drivers wait at the pier to ambush numerous tourists. Unfortunately, this was also true, but we couldn't resist this woman. She immediately took our suitcases and brought us to her rickety motorbike tuk-tuk. She seemed very kind and friendly to us. 2 days later, I met her again on the street and she waved joyfully to me from her tuk-tuk.
Now that we have arrived at the hotel - by the way, not comparable to the apartments in Bangkok - our first impression was somewhat sobering. The area was not very beautiful...
In the afternoon, I went to see the beach, which I found only 400 meters from the hotel. Very very big and very very clean!! This was one of a total of about 7 beaches on Koh Lanta, the Klong Dao Beach. Everyone had to pay 10 baht at the pier for the island cleaning fee. The cleanliness on the beach was very very positive! By the way, 10 baht is 0.27 cents!
After a few days, I noticed more and more the brightness and tranquility here. After renting a motorbike, we could explore the island. A total of 7 beaches and each one more beautiful than the other! Yoga everywhere and sometimes free of charge on the beach. Wonderful bungalows for sometimes 24.00 euros per night, right on the beach.
On Friday, we drove to the national park with the motorbike. The jungle right on the beach, elephants and monkeys everywhere.
Unfortunately, there are often clouds here, but still 31-32 degrees warm and the sea... like a bathtub!
Wonderful restaurants and also German restaurants - which don't interest me that much.
I eat more fruits and vegetables here than in 1 year in Germany. I will miss the food a lot when I return!!!!
The names of the restaurants are also extraordinary: Shanti Shanti, Fat Monkey, Monkey Dounkey, Om, etc.:-))
Christmas Eve on the beach in a beautiful restaurant, candles in the sand and lanterns rising to the sky. It couldn't be better!!
Yesterday, I went to the pharmacy, as my cold unfortunately did not get better. No one in the pharmacy... suddenly the pharmacist jumped out of the door at me... in a Santa Claus costume!! She wanted to surprise me, I couldn't stop laughing!
Today we went to the hairdresser, Anan needs a good hairstyle for the passport photos... because we have an appointment at the German Embassy in Bangkok on the 29th! The hairdresser had to have an ice cream with us before he started...
I could write a lot more here, but it would just get too long. So... dear Ashtangis, let's go to Koh Lanta together and chill. I have already found the perfect bungalows!!!
We'll go back to Bangkok on the 28th, then I'll be in touch again. Best regards, Dirk
