So, after a long break, we finally continue here. The blog took a few weeks of vacation in Puerto Escondido 🤗 More about that in the corresponding report.
From Veracruz we took the night bus through the Sierra Madre del Norte to Oaxaca, the capital of the state with the same name.
Located very quietly, at 1500m and surrounded by dry hills, the city offers a wonderful relaxed atmosphere. The food is good, you get fantastic coffee and you could spend hours in the three market halls where all kinds of things are offered.
There are also excursions to be made. One of them took us to the ruins of Monte Alban, the former capital of the Zapotecs and later the Mixtecs. Very interesting, but there is probably more to come in the Mayan areas in the south.
The second excursion went to Hierve el Agua. These are saltwater waterfalls. The salt is deposited and forms stalactites on the rock ledge. There are also natural pools where you can swim.
After four days I had seen enough of the city and made my way to Puerto Escondido. Again with the night bus in about nine hours.
