Shortly before Trento we were hit by a deluge of rain. A curtain of rain was coming from the mountains behind us on the left, and the dark horror of Trieste was opening up in front of us. In the end we were right in the middle of it. When it started we thought it was going to hail because it was so loud. But it was just raindrops the size of water bombs. Maria was completely soaked in 10 seconds.
Completely soaked, we were able to stop at a restaurant. Maria put on dry clothes and we had something to eat. During the 2-hour break accompanied by rain, we booked a hotel so that we could explore the city in the dry.
From Trento to Bolzano
The Moosbauer campsite tops everything we have experienced so far. The washrooms are called sanitary learning areas and in the scullery you are informed about the different South Tyrolean wines. Simply brilliantly done.
From Bolzano to Silandro
The Vogelsang campsite in Schlanders in Schlanders was the most expensive place on our trip so far (47.00 euros without the local tax). In return, we had a pitch on a clover meadow. My comment "that's a pretty steep price" was answered with "You can keep driving, but I don't think you'll find anything cheaper."
The sanitary facilities were modern and intact, but there was no more on offer than at other sites. In Meiningen, you could also use a refrigerator for a third of the price. We think it's a complete rip-off. And of course we only paid 28.50 euros at the campsite in St. Valentin auf der Haide.
From Schlanders to St. Valentin auf der Haide
From St. Valentin auf der Haide to Landeck
Today we take the train from Landeck to Bregenz, as we can't manage the side route over the Fernpass with our luggage and touring bikes. It is too steep and rocky in the direction we are travelling. We say goodbye to the Via Claudia Augusta.
