03.11. - MS Finnmarken - Course towards North Cape

Diterbitkan: 04.11.2019

We are awakened by the rising sun and blue sky over the snowy mountains. In a short time, I am on Deck 8 to observe the Arctic landscape with a few other passengers.

In the late morning, we reach Honningsvåg. In thick winter clothing, we disembark and board a bus to the North Cape. We are accompanied by the hope that the good weather will hold up to the Cape. Along the way, the first mists move over the winter landscape. But we are lucky, the weather holds up for the obligatory photos. Then suddenly a snowstorm comes up and within a short time, almost nothing is visible. We visit the museum in the well-developed Nordkapp hall for tourists and write postcards from the supposedly 'Northernmost Point of Europe,' which is actually located on a headland next to the Cape.

On the way back to the ship, the already dark Honningsvåg and some forgotten stockfish impress us at 3 PM.

Back on board, there is warm apple cake and hot cocoa. Unfortunately, we then learn that our excursion to the Sami people has to be canceled due to the weather conditions. As if to confirm, the ship starts rocking heavily!

The waves increase with every mile we travel north. The port in Mehamn is no longer called due to the storm. In the evening, we estimate the waves crashing against the ship to be 8-10 m high. Today there is a great North Cape fish buffet in the restaurant, but the number of passengers is very manageable. We are fine, but we skip our planned game night and hope for a calm night.
