From Jonas:
We continued our journey to Galle by bus. Here stands an old fortress built by the Dutch. Within the walls, there are beautiful houses with plenty of boutiques and cozy guesthouses. We also rented a small room there from where we could explore everything. Since the prices here are extremely high, we only stayed for one night. It's enough to see everything.
From the walls, we had a beautiful view of the sea and the sunset. The restaurants were also very good. However, the shops were overpriced, so we just strolled around. But in a small and bustling souvenir shop, we eventually found something and bought a self-painted picture with an elephant head. But we had to negotiate the price. At first, she didn't want to, and she even called her husband, who painted the picture. In the end, she sold it to us for our price.
The next morning, we continued our journey by train. The platform was crowded again, so we went directly to the third class, as there is more space due to the larger benches. Bella was also very happy that we found two seats. Looking into the second class, we were glad that we went directly to the third class carriage. There was even a seat available, but the other tourists preferred to stand in the second class... I guess they didn't want to travel with the commoners.
When we arrived in Hikkaduwa, we walked into our small hotel, which was really nice. Unfortunately, our room was right next to the railway tracks, and when I say right next to, I mean right next to. When a train passed by, it felt like it was going through the room. But it wasn't so bad for us, actually quite interesting. Every time we heard the railway crossing bells, we knew it would soon be loud, so we stood by the window to see the train. The first few nights were scary, but once we got used to it, it was fine. There wasn't much traffic, about every hour, but even at night, everything rattled in the room.
When we went to the beach, we were disappointed. It was very dirty and small, and the restaurants were not very inviting. But we managed to find a shop that had really delicious food. Nevertheless, we decided to continue our journey the next day.
There was still one highlight, though. As we were walking on the beach in the evening, a local waved at us and pointed to the water. I got curious and went to take a look. Three old and fat turtles were floating in the shallow water. The local was selling seaweed to feed them, but we didn't buy any. Some others were already feeding them, and we managed to take some pictures without feeding them.
