After a total of 40 hours of travel and a 12-hour time difference, I arrived in Brazil in mid-October on the other side of the world.
My French friend Marine was already waiting for me at the hostel, and together we will explore South America for the next few months. We met in 2008 during a 2-month school exchange between my hometown and Nice. This wonderful friendship has lasted to this day, and now the Frenchwoman and the German meet again on a different continent.
Manaus, the capital of the state of Amazonas in Brazil, is located in the north of the country and is known as a starting point for jungle trips. The city offered optimal conditions to start our journey into the rainforest.
Ines and Marine reunited. In the background is the most famous landmark in Manaus, the Teatro Amazonas.
