Day 6 - Beaches, Whales, and Sun

Pibliye: 03.06.2018

The next morning, the world looked a little better. During the usual mediocre breakfast, we planned our day.

We first went to Chatham, a small coastal town with a great beach. We parked as indicated, but the beach was still about 4-5 km away from the parking lot. So we decided to take the car directly.

There was construction at the entrance to the beach. A policeman was directing traffic - or at least he tried to. It was not surprising that I misinterpreted his signals and drove off instead of stopping. Fortunately, he apparently didn't feel like giving us a ticket. Maybe he also realized that he might need some more training for this area.

We parked at the beach and walked along it barefoot. The water of the Atlantic was wonderfully cold and the sand was warmed by the sun. The fresh air added to the experience. It was wonderful. We took some souvenir photos and then headed back to the car. We wanted to go on a whale watching tour in Provincetown. It started at 12:30 pm, so we had to hurry a bit.

We arrived in Provincetown at 11:50 am. The parking lot was right next to the Dolphin Fleet, where we wanted to book the tour. We quickly parked the car and packed a few things. We were lucky and managed to get some tickets for the 12:30 tour. The tour was supposed to last about 4 hours, depending on when the whales were sighted.

The boat was nice and big, so we found a spot on the sun deck. The sun was scorching. At exactly 12:30 pm, we set off. The ride on the Atlantic made it pleasantly cool. We even had to put on a windbreaker. Except for Mr. Crab, who didn't need one. He sat there in the blazing sun, wearing a t-shirt, and taking a nap. Since we hadn't had lunch yet, we got a little hungry. Sabrina enjoyed delicious pasta with cream sauce. I treated myself to a hot dog and Marcel had a hand-sized toast with ham. It tasted good and the prices were reasonable.

Soon, the first humpback whales appeared. Amazing creatures. We took some beautiful photos. There were several groups of whales. One group suddenly jumped out of the water and splashed back onto the surface with full force. Unfortunately, this happened so unexpectedly that we could only partially capture it in photos. But it doesn't matter. We won't forget this experience anytime soon. On the way back to Provincetown, we enjoyed the sun and the breeze and let our souls relax.

Back in town, Sabrina wanted to buy a postcard. So we did.

When we left the parking lot, the nice old granny wanted to charge us $17.50. A steep price for 4 hours - compared to what we were used to, but still a bargain. Fortunately, the bank pays the salary on the 30th on time.

We made our way to our accommodation for the day. The Cape Cod Inn.

A beautiful white wooden facility with a pool and nice loungers. You really couldn't complain for $90 a night. The room was also nicely furnished and seemed to have just been renovated. We quickly unloaded the suitcases and discussed where to go for dinner. Since our Mr. Crab is very picky, I couldn't go to my preferred lobster restaurant. We went to an Italian restaurant instead - Fanizzis. Located directly by the sea. It didn't look bad. Sabrina had fish and chips. Marcel had typical American tortellini in cream sauce with chicken. Delicious. ;D

I ordered a pasta dish with various types of seafood - including lobster, scallops, and shrimp. The sauce was slightly spicy and went perfectly with the pasta and seafood.

After dinner, my stomach started bothering me again. Annoying. I lay down on my bed at the hotel and quickly fell asleep. Meanwhile, Sabrina and Marcel took a walk in the city. Unfortunately, the shops were already closed at 6 pm, so they could only take a stroll by the harbor. When they returned, I slowly woke up. Hoping that the sleep had done some good, we discussed the next day and checked if our helicopter video had already been uploaded. Indeed, it had. We have included the YouTube link here:
