More precisely: Sydney! Here, we had a total of 4 days to explore everything. And what do you do with so much time? Sleep! ;) We arrived in Sydney early in the morning after a 14-hour flight, completely exhausted, and were overjoyed when we finally stood in front of our bed after a traffic jam-filled and expensive taxi ride! So we spent day 1 mostly in our bed because there wasn't much else to do with us and the weather wasn't particularly good either. When hunger struck, we had to leave our Airbnb and go in search of something to eat. We also got a first impression of the area around Bondi Beach, where our first accommodation was. We even made it to the beach and were thrilled with the beautiful view and the cute little cafes and shops around! And also with the people, because it seemed as if each and every one of them was perfect... ;). However, the bed quickly lured us back and our hosts must have gotten a very strange impression of us...
We then used the next day a bit more intensively, but only after we had slept in thoroughly. Our day started at around 1:30 pm with a delicious breakfast, and then we headed to Bondi Beach. However, the weather in the morning wasn't that great, so we didn't want to lay on the beach and didn't think sunscreen was necessary... So instead, we walked from Bondi Beach along a cliff path towards Coogee Beach. But the view was so beautiful, and the sun had come out by then, so we made ourselves comfortable on a rock for a few hours.
When we noticed a slight redness on Franzi's skin, we decided it was time to move on and look for dinner. When we arrived at an Italian restaurant, the slight redness had taken on enormous proportions and had spread to all of our previously exposed skin. What do we learn from this? ALWAYS use sunscreen! Even if the sun may not be so strong or it's not so hot because there's a breeze, especially when you're lying in the sun in Australia for a few hours!! Nevertheless, we still had a nice, but not so long, evening!
The next morning started with the task of finding our next accommodation (and with a huge shock about an even redder sunburn than it had been yesterday!!). We decided to save money and use public transportation, which wasn't necessarily the best idea... Once we finally found the right bus line, the ticket problems started because you couldn't buy them on the bus. So we had to wait for another bus until we finally sat in it with a valid ticket... To our disappointment, we were sitting on the bus in the wrong direction, and after just one stop, we reached the final stop. When the bus in the right direction finally came, we faced the next problem because the bus stops were not displayed anywhere in the bus and they weren't announced either. Somehow, we still managed to get off at the right stop and even transfer to the right bus. However, we went past one stop and then had to walk back a bit to our hostel. So it was a very exhausting journey with all our luggage, and with temperatures of at least 30 degrees, the rest of the day was somehow ruined for us. In the evening, we finally left our accommodation and went to a barbecue in a park across from our hostel. But that wasn't so spectacular - everyone who was there had already gotten to know each other and then it started raining lightly. However, the food was delicious and cheap, and we had a girl from our room with us who was really nice. Together, we took a little walk through the main streets of Sydney and then the third day in Sydney was over.
The fourth and last day was clearly the most productive! Of course, we couldn't leave Sydney without seeing the world-famous Opera House. But first, a hostel employee advised us to go to a flea market nearby, which we did right away. There, we strolled through the aisles and even bought a few things. Now we're both proud owners of sunglasses with two arms (after losing one arm each from the previous ones...). But then we finally went to the harbor. When we arrived there after about an hour's walk, we were overwhelmed, and only now did it really sink in that we were actually in Australia! At the foot of the Opera House, we made ourselves comfortable and spent half the afternoon there, only interrupted by a few Korean interviews.
Afterwards, we started our way back, and since we still had some credit on our bus ticket, we wanted to take the bus... again, not a good idea, especially not by chance and without knowing which bus line is the right one. As you can imagine, this ride did not go as planned either, and at some point, we had no idea where we even were... and what do you do when you get lost in a big city on the other side of the world? Right, you eat first!! :P The food gave us new strength, and so we even managed to walk home!
Then we had to go to the airport again and take our last flight! And after a few hours, we landed happily in AUCKLAND! Now the big adventure can begin!
Stay tuned and see you soon! :)
