Noto, one of the Baroque cities in Sicily and also a UNESCO World Heritage site, is a must-see. We are looking for a parking lot that is not too far from the center, which is not easy with our long mobile home. In front of the city gate, near a park, it looks pretty good. Then comes a Mr. Important who guides us, promises to keep an eye on the car and of course wants money... He gets his Sunday money, because officially he is certainly not, and recommends a pizzeria to us... 😜
Noto is really beautiful and there is a lot going on here. Of course, it's Sunday, so the Sicilians are out with their families. And it's Carnevale, there is confetti everywhere and a few children are dressed up. We hope to see something, but unfortunately we are probably too late. Little by little, the people are leaving and it is getting quieter. But you can see that it is a tourist town, there are plenty of souvenir shops, cafes and restaurants - most of them closed.
We eat a pizza in that pizzeria 🙈 and drive back towards the coast. Marzamemi sounds nice and has a new parking area. When we arrive, it is a parking lot and full. We park in between and decide to wait until evening. Then the Sunday excursionists are gone again.
And the village is really lively, the Sicilians are in Sunday mood. The place is very touristy, the old tuna factory, the Tonnara, has been restored and equipped with many restaurants, bars and shops. Everything is really well done, we are thrilled. And we are happy to finally experience a bit of Italian vivere.
In the evening, the parking lot turns into a parking area, in the end there are 8 mobile homes. In the morning, I take a little shopping tour and enjoy the beautiful Tonnara views one more time, then we continue driving. On the way back towards Palermo. We end up - because of the storm - at the Club Piccadilly campsite in Sampieri. During a walk on the beach, we are glad to be protected from the wind, because today it's blowing really hard. Are these the effects of Zeynep?
