Lulea 6th February 2022

Pibliye: 15.01.2023

Today we are going to Jokkmokk, even though the Sami Winter Market has been canceled due to Corona. So we drive via Boden to Jokkmokk, and back via Arvidsjaur to Lulea. In Käbdalis, a little outside Lulea, we visit the Käbdalis ski resort. It has 4 lifts with 9 km of slopes and 4 km of ski routes, and it is located at an elevation of 360 to 570 meters, usually with very good conditions for winter sports enthusiasts. We continue through snow-covered winter landscapes towards Jokkmokk. We observe reindeer searching for food under the high piles of snow, as well as grouse. Upon arrival in Jokkmokk, we can observe a woodpecker up close and hear it from the top of the Gamla kyrka tower. In its over 400-year history, the Winter Market in Jokkmokk has become the largest winter festival in Northern Europe. Visitors can taste reindeer heart and coffee cheese, listen to traditional Joik singing, and stock up on colorful hats and gloves. The Sami people call their craftsmanship "Duodji," which is an integral part of their culture and identity. Kitchen utensils made of wood, as well as jewelry made of silver and reindeer leather, are typical Sami products.
